Say what you will about Fox News, but they’ve just marked 100 months in a row of being #1 among cable news networks.
While many label FNC “conservative,” CNN, MSNBC or the NYT could be labeled “liberal.” Those petty labels aside, the more entertaining product usually wins, but what we at Media Positioning see in these numbers is that personality, opinions and content treatment all count – whether or not you agree with them. There are more registered Democrats than Conservatives in this country, so why does FNC continue to trample its competitors? Personality. Opinion. Treatment. (And some controversy doesn’t hurt, either.)
Whether you’re a radio host, politician, or even an editor for a magazine – standing out is difficult. And boring people and lackluster treatment = boring content and poor ratings.
